∃ 1
The undeniable foundation
Deny that something exists. What happens? Who's doing the denying?
Click the button to try denying existence:
This isn't philosophy - it's the most basic fact possible. You can analyze it, question it, doubt it, but you can't genuinely deny it without contradiction.
Everything else we can derive, debate, or discover. But this - that something exists - we cannot doubt. It's the only truly undeniable starting point for any knowledge system.
∃ means "there exists" in mathematical logic
1 means "something" (not necessarily the number one)
Together: ∃ 1 = "Something exists"
Most philosophical and scientific systems start by trying to prove things exist. But this gets them into trouble immediately - if you start from doubt, you can doubt your way out of everything.
But notice: even absolute skepticism proves existence. To doubt everything, something must be doing the doubting. The doubter exists, even if everything else is uncertain.
Instead of starting from "maybe nothing exists," we start from "something definitely exists." This gives us a foundation to build on rather than a hole to climb out of.
For the next day: Notice when you start to doubt yourself about anything. Then remember: the one doing the doubting exists. That's undeniable.
This isn't about building confidence. It's about recognizing the one fact you can't argue with.
You now recognize existence as the only undeniable starting point for all knowledge.
If something exists, it can be different from other things. How do you know? That's Lesson 2.
