A model of the first distinction — self/other as one candidate (Tier 2 conditional)
The framework models a first distinction: "I exist" and "not I exists." This is a proposed model of how differentiation works — not a theorem from ∃ 1. ∃ 1 alone does not establish whether the ground is differentiated or undifferentiated (ε > 0).
Question: Starting from "something exists," how many things do you now see?
The framework proposes that from ∃ 1, we can model a first distinction: "I exist" and "not I exists." This is one candidate for what differentiation looks like — not the only possible model, and not a theorem forced by ∃ 1 alone. The consciousness-first reading (that consciousness makes this distinction) is an optional metaphysical fork, not a consequence of bare existence.
In this model, recognising "self" co-creates "other." They arise together as a pair. Whether this is the fundamental structure of all distinction or one useful lens among several remains open (ε > 0).

Status: Tier 2 — structural argument under formal review. Not derived from ∃ 1 without additional modelling commitments.
The moment you recognize anything as "self" (this red square), you automatically create "other" (that blue square). Self and other are not separate discoveries - they arise together as a pair.
If you can recognize both self and other, the model proposes a third element — the observer. Whether this observer is "consciousness" in a metaphysical sense or simply the registering role in the model is an open question (the optional C0 fork). The argument is structural, not a proof of consciousness.
In this model, the pattern applies to many distinctions:
What looks like a simple red/blue distinction may involve three elements: the two distinguished and the distinguisher. This is a model — whether three is always the right count, and whether the observer is a separate element or an aspect of the process, remain open questions.

For the next 30 seconds, count every distinction you make:
Throughout your day: Notice yourself making distinctions: coffee vs. tea, friend vs. stranger, comfortable vs. uncomfortable. Try counting them - you'll lose track quickly.
The goal isn't to count them all. The goal is to recognize that distinction-making is happening constantly and automatically.
